This example demonstrates decompression of a gzipped file FILE.GZ. Assume the operating system is VMS Alpha, and that the file GUNZIP_AXP.EXE is located in DEVICE:[DIR]

1. Define a VMS symbol designating the full path to the decompression utility:
   $GUNZIP == "$DEVICE:[DIR]GUNZIP_AXP.EXE"
2. Decompress the file:
   $GUNZIP FILE.GZ
